I have received permission from many poets. For those who may still have questions or concerns, I’ve included a few notes below:
Over the years, I have translated the work of many poets—both Chinese and English—with their permission. I always seek permission before beginning any translation, and I do not charge a fee for my work.
In the past, I have devoted considerable time to translating and submitting these works to literary magazines. Most do not offer payment, though a few have (such as Queen’s Quarterly , Arc Poetry Magazine, and Literary Review of Canada). When payment is received, I inform the original poets and we share it.
For this project, I am gathering new and carefully revised translations alongside the original poems in an anthology. A selection of the works will also be used for workshops and discussions.
All authors’ names and biographies will be included in the book. The anthology will be published in digital format and, if funding allows, also in print. I hope to offer a small honorarium to key participants, and a complimentary copy for contributors. However, funding opportunities for translation projects remain very limited.
This project is intended for educational purposes and to promote poetry, and the book will be made available for free.
The copyright of the original texts will remain with the authors. I am respectfully requesting permission to translate and reprint the work without charge.
